Ana Dora (Dorita) Barrios. Born August 26, 1931 in Los Angeles, California, passed away at home in Tucson, Az on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Dora, with her husband and seven children, arrived in Nogales on Thanksgiving Day 1964 having moved from San Gabriel, California. Nogales was chosen because Dora’s parents lived in Santa Ana, Sonora, the small town where Dora had spent part of her childhood and teenage years. On a trip to Los Angeles to visit her brother in her late teens, she met and ultimately married her brother’s best friend, Felix Barrios. Upon arriving in Nogales, Dora, a deeply religious person, wanted to live walking distance from a Catholic church. As luck would have it, or was it divine intervention!, the family found a home on Noon Street, two blocks from Sacred Heart Church. With several large families living on this street, she, and her children, quickly made friends with neighbors resulting in life long friendships. In the early 70’s, she began working at Elm Street Elementary School as a teacher’s aide and worked there through the mid 1980’s. While Dora would often express her limits with cooking, she did excel in and was widely known for her ability to make an outstanding basic Mexican food staple, the flour tortilla! Dora moved to Tucson in 1992, but stayed in touch with multiple families from the old neighborhood, as well as educators from Elm Street School. Traveling to Nogales whenever anyone offered to take her for a visit. She is preceded in death by husband Felix and son Javier. She is survived by six children Elisa, Tony, Rene, Adela, Andrea and Felix, along with their families. The Barrios family thanks you for having enriched our mother’s life with your friendship, kindness, support and love. As our mother would always say when departing your company, “Que Dios Te Bendiga, y que de mi, no se olvide”.
"In lieu of flowers, The Barrios family asks that you pray a Rosary or say a prayer in memory of Dorita"
